Clinical Pilates

Clinical Pilates is Pilates instruction from a Registered Physical Therapist. It is used to help a client recover from pain or injury, as a form of preventative posture correction, or as part of a core strengthening program. The word "clinical" is used to describe an individualized program that is created for a client following a physical therapy assessment.

Clinical Pilates is, therefore, appropriate for all fitness levels and safe for those with pre-existing injuries and conditions. The purpose of Pilates is to remind our bodies how to move well while still being challenging, but not cause the body to strain. The focus is not on the number of repetitions, but rather on doing a few repetitions well to create freer patterns of movement. It is a great complement to chiropractic, massage, and acupuncture care.

I have recently taken RAPID training and am excited to be bringing it to the clinics. I’ve found
that although it is intense, the results are proving to be fast & effective for many issues.

RAPID is done fully clothed, with the client assisting the therapist through movement. Clients often find the movement phase of treatment uncomfortable or even painful, but only
momentarily. This should be followed by near immediate results - AKA: RAPID!

Appointments are typically shorter in length though they can be combined with massage for
longer treatments. RAPID NFR falls under the massage therapy scope of practice, and so is still covered by any insurance with typical massage coverage.

Some conditions that can be quickly resolved with RAPID NFR include:

* headaches / migraines * back pain * shoulder pain
* frozen shoulder * carpal tunnel / TOS * tennis / golfers elbow
* whiplash * TMJD * bursitis
* arthritic joints * shin splints * sciatica
* plantar fasciitis * knee problems * bunions

Questions? Message or e-mail and we can discuss if RAPID is right for you!

Tui Na

Tui na means "pushing grasping," and is a powerful form of Chinese medical bodywork. Based on the same Oriental medical principles as acupuncture, tui na seeks to improve the flow of qi through the meridian channels. Tui na is particularly effective for conditions involving muscles, tendons and joints, such as structural misalignment, orthopedic problems and sports injuries. It can also be used to treat internal diseases.

Cupping

Cupping is an ancient technique, used in many cultures, in which a special cup is applied to the skin and held in place by suction. The suction draws superficial tissue into the cup, which may either be left in place or moved along the body. Cupping brings fresh blood to the area and helps improve circulation. Traditional cupping, sometimes referred to as “fire cupping," uses heat to create a vacuum-like suction inside of glass cups. In modern times, cups that use a small pump to create suction have also been introduced.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion involves the heating of acupuncture points with smoldering mugwort herb (known as moxa). Moxibustion stimulates circulation, counteracts cold and dampness in the body, and promotes the smooth flow of blood and qi. This safe, non-invasive technique may be used alone, but it is generally used in conjunction with acupuncture treatment.
